Tf2 validating

Every time I try to play tf2 it tells me it's validating my steam cache files, and then stops at 100%. I was using Avast for a while and TF2 would have to validate every day or so.

At first I just did an actual validation from properties Honestly, it could be your antivirus.

So please r/tf2, what should I do and what CAN I do? Here's what worked for my brother's validatitus. This will reset some of your settings but if it works, I figure it's worth it.

PROTIP: In the launch options, you can also put stuff like "-novid" to skip the intro movies. Right click tf2 and click "Properties." Go to the "local files" tab and click "Defragment cache files." This will take about 10-15 minutes to do, and tf2 won't need validation from that point on as long as you close Steam properly.

In the end, though, I assure you it's worth it because now I don't have to sit through that annoying pop-up!

Hope I helped a lot of others too : DI have this problem, I think we're boned until valve launches steampipe as The Qless mentioned.

Visit Stack Exchange For a few months now, Steam has been validating my files whenever I open it. What exactly is Steam doing when it says that it is validating files, and why does it need to do it so frequently?

As to why the validation is happening automatically after updates download for these two games.

I don't know, it doesn't make much sense, since the download just happened and should not have been corrupt.

It was most likely due to me downloading several games off steam at once.
